It’s May, and rain has been falling all day. A gloomy day in a gloomy month, and yes, it’s been gloomy in our world for all of 2020. At first we heard of the strange virus appearing in China, and then Italy, and now we all suffer the same fate, of watching and waiting to see what happens next.
The quarantine continues, and masks have become a part of our daily attire, but fortunately there are no restrictions against vegetable gardening!
The rain has been generous this spring and I hope you have found dry days to get out and garden.
The viral pandemic has shuttered many aspects of our lives in ways that seem surreal, but one look outside and it’s easy to see that spring has not been cancelled …
March is here which means that winter is over. Almost. On average. Historically.
A mild January doesn’t necessarily mean the coldest weather is behind us. February is a month that can bring 80-degree days or an inch of snow—or both just a few days apart!
A new year also means it’s time to get busy in the vegetable garden. So far winter has been, at least in my mind, tolerable, and hopefully January will bring us more mild, sunny days for planting, weeding and watering.
Once again, our Travis County Master Gardeners hosted third graders from Title 1 Travis County Schools for the Science of Agriculture – Youth Event.
Goodbye watermelon, hello grapefruit! Some fruits and vegetables are simply better eaten fresh and in season. Watermelon in the winter? No way.
