From Drought to Deluge: The Resilient Central Texas Garden

New! The 2020 edition of our gardener’s favorite is now available. From Drought to Deluge: The Resilient Central Texas Garden covers all of the major challenges faced by Central Texas gardeners, from drought to extreme rainfall.

From Drought to Deluge: The Resilient Central Texas Garden will soon be available in many local nursery and gardening stores, or you may purchase directly from our website for $27.95 plus shipping and handling (see below).

This edition is designed to help Central Texans learn ways to conserve water without sacrificing the entire garden over to extreme “zero-scaping.” Plant selection, irrigation, and soil management tips are specific for each of the three major geologies found in the Austin area: the Edwards Plateau, the Blackland Prairies, and the Post Oak Savannah Flood Plains. Other xeriscaping principles such as practical lawns, planning and design, and a garden maintenance section with a garden calendar are also included. Emphasis is placed on compost, mulch, IPM, and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

From Drought to Deluge: The Resilient Central Texas Garden is filled with the collective wisdom from Travis County Master Gardeners, research-based information from Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, and resources from the city of Austin. It’s all annotated so that you can deep-dive into further databases, research papers, municipal plans, and reference books.
